Spellbound by the Blazing Rhododendrons on PuTaLeng Peak

The rhododendron season sees Pu Ta Leng adorned in a brilliant purple, creating a truly majestic panorama amidst the expansive Hoàng Liên Sơn mountain range.

Perched at an elevation of 3,049 meters above sea level, Pu Ta Leng Peak, part of the Hoang Lien Son mountain range in Tam Duong District, Lai Chau Province, is currently drawing a large number of trekking enthusiasts. They come to admire the mysterious, wild beauty of thousands of rhododendron trees blooming vibrantly, painting the entire mountain forest in brilliant purple hues.
Pu Ta Leng is considered the second highest peak of the Hoang Lien Son range, often dubbed the 'kingdom of rhododendrons.' Here, the vibrant purple rhododendron trees create a uniquely stunning sight. The higher you ascend, the more beautiful the rhododendrons become, with their exquisite blossoms often carpeting large rocks, forming a breathtaking floral display when in full bloom.

Currently, the rhododendron season is in full swing across the Northwest, showcasing the strength and resilience of this remarkable flower.

Rhododendrons are also known by other names such as 'Son Tra flower' (mountain camellia) and 'Man Son Hong' (full mountain red).

Rhododendron blossoms boast vibrant colors and exude a captivating, sweet fragrance.

From late February to April, the rhododendron season sees the mountain slopes ablaze with brilliant purple blooms.

The ancient, pristine rhododendron forests, bursting with color, attract many visitors who come to admire and enjoy their beauty.

According to local residents, there are two routes to reach the blooming rhododendrons. One is from Giang Ma Commune, located on National Highway 4D (Lao Cai - Sa Pa - Lai Chau). The second is from Si Thau Chai Village, Ho Thau Commune, Tam Duong District.

Ms. Nguyen Quynh Trang, a visitor, shared that the bright beauty of the rhododendrons evokes images of a gentle, beautiful, and charmingly feminine young woman.

The ancient rhododendron trees in the pristine forest create a mysterious and majestic atmosphere amidst the mountains.

Pu Ta Leng is home to many different species of rhododendrons, including red, pink, yellow, and white, but the most striking are the purplish-pink varieties.

Vast stretches of rhododendron blooms extend endlessly through the forest.


The Rhododendron Peak, standing at 2,619 meters, is considered the most beautiful rhododendron peak not only in Lai Chau but throughout the entire Northwest region.
When visiting Lai Chau, travelers can also explore many other famous tourist attractions, such as:
1. O Quy Ho Pass
According to the legend of O Quy Ho Pass, a bird with a haunting cry once frequented this mountainous area, linked to a mythical tale of a forbidden love between a young couple. Over time, the pass became known by the bird's distinctive 'O Quy Ho' call.

2. Sin Ho Plateau
Sin Ho Plateau is a highland district in Lai Chau, often referred to as the 'second Sapa' of the Northwest region. This is due to its year-round cool climate, with average temperatures hovering around 18 degrees Celsius. The plateau boasts a favorable location, nestled amidst towering rocky mountains and surrounded by lush, pristine forests, all harmonizing with a sea of floating clouds to create a truly ethereal, fairyland-like landscape.

3. Chu Va Peak
From Sa Pa, follow National Highway 4D towards Lai Chau for about 30 km, and you'll reach the foot of Chu Va Mountain. Chu Va is a relatively new tourist destination, yet it holds a strong appeal for adventurers and photographers. Here, visitors can unleash their creativity every moment, captivated by the ever-changing spectacle of clouds and mountains.

4. Muong Than Field
'Nhat Thanh, Nhi Lo, Tam Than, Tu Tac' is an old saying by ancestors, referring to the vast and most beautiful rice fields in the Northwest. Just hearing the tale of the 'Than Uyen wind' is enough to ignite the wanderlust in any traveler, eager to traverse Highway 32, leaving Mu Cang Chai (Yen Bai) behind for Than Uyen (Lai Chau) on a sunny winter afternoon.

5. Ta Lien Peak – Phong Tho
Ta Lien Son is beautiful with its diverse pristine vegetation, lush ancient trees with thick trunks covered in moss and ferns. The paths are 'carpeted' with pure white ancient camellia flowers, vibrant red maple leaves interspersed with green moss, and charming multi-colored rhododendron blossoms scattered everywhere.
